Togetherness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-evidenzio-columns has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f5f2e8\"><div class=\"container-fluid py-3 py-lg-4\"><div class=\"row justify-content-center\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-evidenzio-column col-12 col-md-12 col-lg-7\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><br><br><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-evidenzio-columns has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f5f2e8\"><div class=\"container-fluid py-2 py-lg-5\"><div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-evidenzio-column col-12 col-md-12 col-lg-5\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-evidenzio-column col-12 col-md-12 col-lg-7\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Some time ago, I found myself telling old friends about the idea behind&nbsp;<em>Think Like a Mountain<\/em>. As I talked, I realized how complicated it was to explain the sense of this \u201cwidespread program,\u201d which is not an exhibition, not a biennial, not a festival, not a conference&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">I needed an unfindable word that might bring together and replace the too many expressions I was using to try and describe it: participation, sustainability, rootedness, process, cyclicality, creativity, evolution, nature, adventure, temporality, territory, community&#8230; mountain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I parted ways with that group of friends with a deep sense of frustration. What cannot be easily communicated cannot be successful, I repeated to myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Since then, along with all the people who carry the program forward, we have continued to nurture our idea, bringing our vision into sharper focus and refining our vocabulary. We have read books, written presentations and recounted&nbsp;<em>Think Like a Mountain<\/em>&nbsp;to hundreds of people. However, we have yet to find the word I needed that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">A few weeks ago, I thought back to an English term used by art historian Chus Martinez to describe the performance&nbsp;<em>Deserters<\/em>, by artist Chiara Bersani: \u201cone of the strongest works I have ever seen about vulnerability and the importance of creating spaces of \u2018togetherness,\u2019\u201d she wrote in a post.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Those familiar with Chiara Bersani\u2019s work can well understand the meaning of that word. \u201cTogetherness\u201d is a noun that cannot be directly translated into Italian. A literally translation might be the word&nbsp;<em>insieme<\/em>, but not in the sense of our noun\u2014which in English is closer to \u201cset,\u201d \u201censemble\u201d\u2014but rather to the sense of&nbsp;<em>insieme<\/em>&nbsp;as an adverb. For as a noun, \u201ctogetherness\u201d is a term that \u201cnounifies\u201d the dimension of \u201cbeing together,\u201d without necessarily turning it into a single thing, a single \u201cwhole.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I cannot say I am entirely sure \u201ctogetherness\u201d is the word we were looking for. Not least because&nbsp;<em>Think Like a Mountain<\/em>&nbsp;is a collective project and, as such, carries with it the thoughts and sensitivities of many individuals. However, it is certainly a better term than others to express the intentions underpinning the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">In Aldo Leopold\u2019s outlook, which we have drawn on heavily, \u201cthinking like a mountain\u201d means taking a \u201cwhole\u201d perspective on the world and nature, with its mysterious variety and profound interconnections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As Leopold writes, \u201cOnly the mountain has lived long enough to listen objectively to the howl of the wolf.\u201d The mountain alone, in other words\u2014with its height, its breadth, its age\u2014can help us grasp the ultimate meaning of our living together, offering us the chance to walk new paths, to follow new interspecies trajectories, to set out on new \u201cmore-than-human\u201d adventures (as anthropologist Anna Tsing would say) and perhaps find ourselves again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Enjoy your journey!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Lorenzo Giusti<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":3137,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[23],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1140","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-home-en"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.5 -
