On the occasion of the third cycle of Thinking Like a Mountain, the films produced by GAMeC by Michela de Mattei and Invernomuto, Agnese Galiotto, and Giulio Squillacciotti will be presented during a tour that will touch the Bergamo valleys from February to May 2025.
The tour is held in collaboration with Lab 80 film.
THE FILMS
Paraflu by Michela de Mattei and Invernomuto
The reappearance of wolves in different parts of Italy led Michela de Mattei and Invernomuto to analyze the figure of this predator as a symbol of independence and knowledge, conflict and transformation. Paraflu ventures through the landscapes of the Lombardy Alps, alternating 16mm footage with artificial intelligence-generated effects that amplify the sense of disorientation and ambiguity evoked by the wolf, while also alluding to the tales of philosopher and naturalist Baptiste Morizot that describe the animal as possessing the magical art of misdirection.
Migratori by Agnese Galiotto
Agnese Galiotto’s work explores the complex interaction between human beings and animals, starting from the encounter between a group of ornithologists and a number of specimens of various species of migratory birds. Involving two of the ringing stations to be found along the migratory route that crosses Italy longitudinally, down to North Africa, the artist manages to restore a two-fold dimension: one both scientific and profoundly human.
MUT by Giulio Squillacciotti
The film recounts, through the experience of two young mountain boys and their parents, the cyclical nature of life in the mountain pastures. Right from the title (which simply means “mountain” in Bergamo dialect), the role of the mountainside—which, when found all around, shapes the rhythms and experiences of those who inhabit it—is clear. In the film, however, it remains in the background of the actions of the young protagonists: the square format of the short film leaves room for shots that enclose portions of it, guiding attention to details and interaction between family members, and those between them and the animals. A stylistic choice that, rather than limiting its visual breadth, steeps the viewer in an intimate perspective, which forgoes open, descriptive fields so as to recount the deep connection between the mountainside and those who live on it.
